How the Domain Transfer Process Works

Buying a domain from a third party can feel risky if you have never done it before. You are sending funds to someone you have never met for a digital asset you cannot physically inspect.

That hesitation is completely reasonable. It is exactly why every domain sold through Namecera moves through a secure, neutral escrow checkout system. We never use direct bank transfers or private, unprotected payment methods.

Here is exactly how our transfer process works, why it eliminates risk for both sides, and how you control the transaction.

What escrow means for a domain sale

An escrow service is a neutral third party that holds the buyer’s payment until the seller has delivered the asset. The funds are released to the seller only after the domain has been transferred to the buyer — so if anything goes wrong, the money is protected.

This gives both sides protection at the same time:

  • The buyer never loses money to a seller who fails to deliver the domain.
  • The seller never hands over a valuable domain to a buyer who fails to pay.

That’s why we route 100% of transactions through established, domain-specific escrow platforms rather than accepting payments ourselves.

Two ways to complete your purchase

Most buyers don’t realize they have a choice here. You’re not forced to wait for a link — you can transact whichever way feels most comfortable.

Option 1 — We send you a secure checkout link

Tell us which domain you want, and we’ll generate a personalized checkout link tied to that exact domain and the agreed price. You simply pay through the secured platform — quick, with zero setup on your end.

Your link will come from one of our trusted platforms and look something like:

  1. https://www.spaceship.com/s /buy/domainname /customcode
  2. https://checkoutlink.godaddy.com /customcode
  3. https://www.dynadot.com/market /pay-links /domainname

Each link is time-limited and expires after a set period. If yours expires before you complete the purchase, just let us know and we’ll issue a new one.

Option 2 — You start the transaction yourself

On platforms like SafePay (By SapceShip.com and AtomPay (By Atom.com) , you can open the deal directly from your own account. This puts you in the driver’s seat if you’d rather initiate and control the transaction. The typical flow:

  1. Choose your role and enter the deal. Select “Buyer,” then enter the domain name and the agreed price.
  2. Set your preferences. Pick your payment method and how any commission is split. (On SafePay, the buyer’s email is optional and the seller’s is required, so the offer can reach them.)
  3. Create the transaction. The offer is sent to the seller for review and approval.
  4. Pay through the secure checkout. Once the seller accepts, you complete payment. Your funds are held safely — not released to the seller yet.
  5. The platform assists the transfer. The domain is moved from seller to buyer using standard registrar steps, and you can track the status throughout.
  6. Funds release on confirmation. Once the domain is confirmed in your control, the seller is paid. AtomPay also backs this with a refund guarantee if a transfer can’t be completed.

Either way, the protection is identical: your funds stay in the platform until the domain is verified as transferred to you.

The platforms we use

We never invent our own payment system. Every transaction runs through an established, domain-specific platform:

SafePay (By SapceShip.com) — Built to make domain transactions safer and faster, even when a deal starts outside Spaceship’s marketplace. Either party can set it up, the buyer chooses the payment method, funds are held securely until transfer is complete, and Spaceship’s team assists the handover with some of the fastest transfer and payout times in the industry.

AtomPay (By Atom.com) — A purpose-built escrow alternative for domain deals. A buyer, seller, or broker can start the transaction, set one-time or installment terms, and decide who covers the fees. AtomPay collects both the payment and the domain before releasing either side, releases funds only after the buyer confirms receipt, and includes a refund guarantee if the domain can’t be transferred.

GoDaddy, Dynadot & other trusted platforms — Depending on where the domain is held, we may use the checkout and escrow systems of GoDaddy.com, Dynadot.com, or another trusted registrar. All follow the same principle: your funds and the domain ownership are both secured throughout.

Why this is safer than paying a seller directly

A direct payment to an individual leaves you with no recourse if the domain never arrives. A secure checkout — whether we send it or you start it — removes that risk:

  • Your payment is held by a trusted, monitored platform — not by Namecera and not by the seller.
  • The transfer is verified and managed by the platform’s specialists.
  • You pay a fixed, agreed price through a private transaction, with no public-listing surprises.
  • Both buyer and seller are protected by the same neutral system at once, and platforms like AtomPay add a refund guarantee.

In short, you only ever pay through channels where your money is recoverable until the moment the domain is provably yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay Namecera directly?

No. You always pay through the platform’s secured checkout, never by direct transfer to us. That’s what keeps your funds protected until the domain is in your hands.

Can I start the transaction myself instead of waiting for a link?

Yes. On AtomPay and Spaceship SafePay, you can choose the “Buyer” role, enter the domain and price, and create the transaction. The offer goes to the seller for approval, and once accepted you pay through the secure link. Both paths are equally protected.

When does the seller get paid?

Only after the domain has been transferred to you and confirmed. Until then, your payment is held safely by the platform.

What if my checkout link expires?

Just let us know and we’ll issue a new one.

Ready to acquire your domain safely?

Every name listed on Namecera comes with the same protection. Tell us which domain you want and we’ll generate your secure checkout link — or start the transaction yourself on AtomPay or Spaceship SafePay. Either way, your money and your new domain are protected from start to finish.
